Rolling performance of stolen grass for 7 Km for a duration of 25 hours and 20 min as part of my research in embodied decolonial aesthetics. The route was from UBC University Boulevard where the grass was stolen to the Musqueam Indian Reserve, whose unceaded land the University occupies. The word Musqueam Means "The People of the Grass". Through conversations and dialogues with the Musqueam people, initiated by Beau Dick, we agreed on the location where the grass would be returned back into the earth as a decolonial gesture to the land. As a Mexican with indigenous heritage, I attempt to intervene in narratives of colonialism and collaborate transnationally and in solidarity with other indigenous peoples and struggles. This is a continuation of the piece Unsettling Dream, inspired by the mentorship and collaboration with Kwakwaka’wakw artist and chief Beau Dick (1955–2017) whose work was recently shown on Documenta 14.
